About Us

Meals on Wheels Central Texas began in 1972 as an East Austin grassroots organization powered by eight volunteers. They cooked and delivered meals to 29 neighbors, three times a week.

Within five years, we began receiving grants and grew to serve over 300 neighbors, six times a week. We were called United Action for the Elderly, Inc. then.

By 1982, we had expanded to 14 cooking sites. This allowed us to cook and deliver around 175,000 meals yearly. We changed our name to Meals on Wheels and More by 1994.

Our organization also expanded to include programs like Handy Wheels and Groceries to Go. Meals on Wheels and More was then serving over 1,000 neighbors.

More than 50 years later, Meals on Wheels Central Texas is a multi-program lifeline for older adults and people living with disabilities. We serve over 5,000 neighbors across six Central Texas counties. We do so with the help of more than 4,000 volunteers.

Each business day, over 3,000 neighbors can depend on a home-delivered meal and a vital safety check. These visits are instrumental in allowing them to remain independent.

Meals on Wheels Central Texas is powered by Central Texans for Central Texans. Our community makes us more than 50 years strong!

Our Mission

Delivering care that empowers our neighbors by promoting dignity and independence.

Our Vision

To be the most effective non-profit in Texas providing nutritious high quality meals and a variety of life-enriching services to older adults and others in need.
