Austin Water Boil and MOWCTX Clients

October 23, 2018

As the Austin water crisis continues, we want to thank everyone who donated to our bottled water campaign for Meals on Wheels Central Texas clients who are unable to safely boil water!

We are in the process of distributing the generous donations to the people we serve who are most at risk for dehydration.  At this time, we have enough bottled water to help those in need.

Since there’s no word yet on how much longer this crisis will last, we may be seeking more bottled water next week.  Please check our social media platforms or our website for updates as they occur.

Thank you again for all that you do to assist us in our mission to serve our most vulnerable neighbors!

Thank you for your interest in how our agency is responding to the boil water notice distributed by the City of Austin. Please know that we share your concern about the people we serve, and as soon as we received the notice,  the kitchen staff at Meals on Wheels Central Texas immediately went above and beyond the precautionary measures suggested by health officials in order to ensure the food we prepare is 100% safe for our clients to eat.  That will continue to be the case regardless of how long the boil water notice is in effect, and accordingly, we do not intend to cancel any delivery routes at this time. The people we serve need not worry about the safety of the meals we provide them.

Meanwhile, our Client Services Department has been reaching out to those clients deemed most vulnerable in this particular situation, and we have secured safe, bottled drinking water to provide to those clients.  Our daily meals provided to all of our clients also include a nutritious beverage.

The safety and well-being of the people we are honored to serve is our top priority.  At this time, there is no telling how long the boil water notice will be in effect.  We will keep the people we serve, our volunteers, and you up to date on developments as they occur.
