Helping Homebound Heroes - December

“It was impossible,” says 78-year-old Lucy Bradshaw. “We had a tub that we could not get into.”
Ms. Bradshaw and her 78-year-old husband, William Bradshaw, who served in the U.S. Navy more than a half-century ago, both have mobility issues. So getting in and out of their home’s bathtub to take a shower was a risky proposition for them.
But thanks to renovations done by Meals on Wheels Central Texas’ (MOWCTX) Home Repair program, the Bradshaw’s house in Lockhart, Texas is a safer, easier place for them to live and age in place. Besides installing new siding, a new garage door, painting the exterior, and repairing holes in the walls, MOWCTX also replaced that old bathtub with a brand new walk-in shower. “They even put a seat in there so we can sit while we shower,” says Ms. Bradshaw.
She said the modifications have been a life-changer for her and her husband. “This has been a blessing,” Ms. Bradshaw exclaims.
