Helping Homebound Heroes - August

August 13, 2021

Lula Rose was born in Texas in 1937, and at the age of four her family relocated to Austin. Ms. Rose later married Benny Rose, who served our country honorably in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years. While in the Air Force, they both traveled to several duty stations, where he retired from Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin.

Sadly, Senior Master Sergeant Rose passed away in 2002. Ms. Rose has remained in their house in Austin ever since. Needless to say, this house holds significant meaning to Ms. Rose and her family. Thanks to funding from The Home Depot Foundation, the Meals on Wheels Central Texas Home Repair Team was able to give back to a woman who has given so much to our country. New exterior doors and hardware, energy efficient LED interior lighting, and an accessible hand-held shower were installed to ensure Ms. Rose’s ability to age safely and comfortably in her own home.

Ms. Rose expressed her gratitude and appreciation for all of the repairs received. “I was very fortunate to have been referred to [Meals on Wheels Central Texas] by my friend.”
