Make a Splash! Dive into Summer Volunteering

May 7, 2025

It's summertime, and many people have vacation on their minds. But summer means increased hardship for our homebound neighbors. Hunger does not go on vacation. Your support is critical to help homebound neighbors remain independent.

See how you can support Meals on Wheels Central Texas and make a splash by volunteering with us this summer.

The Benefits of Summer Volunteering

Flexible Commitment: We have several opportunities and can work with your schedule. Volunteer for a one-time delivery or pick up a weekly route. Some weekend opportunities are available.

Increase Local Food Security: Older adults experience increased hardship in the summertime. Your commitment ensures they don’t have to worry about where their next meal comes from.

Bridge Gaps in Social Connection: Homebound older adults often live alone. They can experience limited social connections. Your friendly knock on the door brings safety, comfort, and friendship. Help us keep them community-connected this summer.

Build Community: Our neighbors look forward to your friendly knock. Volunteers also connect with our community in mission. Spend lunch with us and build community!

PALS Program

Pets offer our neighbors essential companionship as they navigate independent living at home. Volunteers can help by taking pets to veterinary and grooming appointments. You can also deliver monthly pet supplies on Second Saturdays. For neighbors in medical facilities, you can also be their pet's temporary foster.

Groceries to Go Program

Our Groceries to Go Program helps homebound neighbors get the groceries they need. Volunteers can take neighbors’ grocery lists and payment to do the shopping for them. Some neighbors can shop, and you can provide transportation and company while they do so. This opportunity does take more time.
