Meet Our Community Champion: Phyllis Everette

April 29, 2025
Phyllis Everette is the founder and CEO of Saffron Trust Women’s Foundation, an Austin-based non-profit that works to end generational poverty—one woman at a time. Phyllis has a personal understanding of poverty, having faced it herself.
Phyllis was raised as one of ten children. From childhood into adulthood, Phyllis experienced housing instability, food insecurity, and lack of access to educational opportunities because of poverty. These challenges followed her into motherhood. After experiencing domestic violence, Phyllis and her children sought safety and housing in a women’s shelter.
This was a key turning point for Phyllis. Here, at the shelter, she experienced the power of sisterhood. In accessing life-saving resources and being surrounded by women who understood her experiences and uplifted her, she was able to overcome challenging times.
The journey out of poverty was anything but easy and was riddled with obstacles everywhere she turned. Today, through unique insight from personal experience, she provides supportive services and guidance for women seeking to overcome the barriers obstructing their success.
Saffron Trust Women’s Foundation addresses critical socioeconomic and health issues affecting minority women in marginalized communities.
Phyllis Joins us as a Community Champion
Meals on Wheels Central Texas is proud to present Phyllis Everette as a Community Champion. Phyllis first learned about our organization through word of mouth. She is a steward of community resources and connects with her community through social media and community engagement events.
“As a Community Champion, I have had the privilege of connecting with seniors in our community, learning their stories, and ensuring they receive the nutrition and care they deserve,” shares Phyllis. “These interactions have enriched my own life, as I have built meaningful relationships with neighbors and fellow volunteers,” she adds.
Phyllis joined us at our Meals on Wheels Central Texas office on Tuesday, March 29, where she met with our President & CEO, Henry Van De Putte. We proudly presented her with a Certificate of Recognition. Phyllis then toured our Central Kitchen for a behind-the-scenes look at meal preparation.
Thank you, Phyllis, for your commitment to older adults across Central Texas. Learn more about her organization, Saffron Trust online or visit (@saffrontrustorg) on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube.
