For over nine years, Sara Blank has dedicated time and heart to giving back with Meals on Wheels Central Texas. We are honored to highlight Sara Blank as our December Mission Ambassador.
Sara often runs a couple routes each week, picking up open routes when substitutes are needed. We first met Sara with her arms full, carrying five fully loaded bags filled with hot, nutritious meals for our neighbors.
Sara looks forward to picking up open routes and keeps an open schedule to serve our neighbors in need. She always hopes for big routes with lots of neighbors to see and greet.
She describes her relationship with her neighbors as “quasi”, saying “we brighten each other’s days.”
When asked if a particular neighbor interaction sticks out to her, she said “Every interaction I have with my neighbors has impacted me and made a such meaningful difference in my life.”
Each delivery presents her with a moment of connection. Sara tells us that with every meal handed over, she extends another hand for a warm handshake. She expressed that these few seconds of connection are essential to both her and the older adults she checks in on. “I love people, and I feel that these moments of connection are as important to the neighbor as they are to me.” Each moment reminds her why she does this.
