Winter Storm Warning Causes MOWCTX Closure and Interrupted Meal Services

Out of an abundance of caution, Meals on Wheels Central Texas anticipates a closure and interruption of meal deliveries on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, due to a winter weather advisory across the Greater Austin area. For the safety of our staff and volunteers, these closures mean the interruption of home-delivered meals, kitchen operations, and the closure of Congregate Lunch Centers.

Over 3000 neighbors recieving daily nutritional support and care from Meals on Wheels Central Texas are encouraged to prepare ahead. Freezing temperatures, ice, and snow can pose increased risks to our neighbors who are older adults and people living with disabilities. Members of the community who want to help can check on neighbors needing support, offer their number as an emergency contact, and share resources at this time.

Neighbors are urged to prepare for winter weather conditions by gathering essentials and knowing their emergency contacts. On the day of interrupted meal delivery services, neighbors should use one of the five shelf-stable nutritious meal kits that were provided at the beginning of winter. We encourage neighbors to have a ready supply of water, medication, and extra blankets to stay warm. Additionally, neighbors should avoid going outside or being near drafts until freezing conditions subside.

Meals on Wheels Central Texas is not available to assist neighbors in the event of an emergency. For emergency assistance please call 911. For information on warming centers or non-emergency help call 311. Please monitor our website, www.mowctx.org, for updates on the status of our operations.
