On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Meals on Wheels Central Texas celebrated the heart of our organization with a grand Volunteer Appreciation Celebration.
Meals on Wheels Central Texas would like to thank our Financial Partners and In-Kind sponsors for helping make this event possible. See our partners recognized below. We also would like to thank our volunteers, who dedicate time and compassion to empower our homebound neighbors in need.
At the event, we spoke with volunteers to learn more about their experiences in delivering hunger relief. Read more about our volunteers below.
Meet Our Volunteers Who Deliver Hope
Our longtime volunteer, Bianca Bosque, joined us at the celebration. Over 13 years ago, she saw a Meals on Wheels Central Texas banner hanging overhead in South Austin.
Since then, Bianca has helped neighbors like Ms. Sherry and Mr. Ogden shop for their groceries. Over the years of shopping with them, Bianca has built bonds with our neighbors and has many meaningful memories to share.
“I met Mr. Ogden when he was 94 and helped him shop until he passed away. His daughter would call me to ask if I could convince him to eat something other than chili,” Bianca reflects fondly.
We also caught up with one of our meal managers and former substitute drivers, Steve Kowalski. He brought his granddaughter Olive to the celebration, as she too has experienced The Power of the Knock. Even her younger sister Penny has delivered meals, once helping a blind neighbor by describing the meal of the day to her.
“When we deliver together, my job is to sort the meals by color and type,” shares Olive. We serve many meal types that accommodate neighbors’ dietary needs and assign them each a color.
Together, Steve and Olive bring hope, nutrition support, and smiles to neighbors in need.

Hunger does not go on vacation
During summer months, volunteer ranks can dwindle as people head out for vacation. However, hunger does not go on vacation. You can support our homebound neighbors when they need it most by volunteering, donating to support services, or even spreading the word about our mission.
