“They came by in the nick of time”

For Cheryl Walker and her husband, the move from Brownsville, Texas, to Caldwell meant settling into a comfortable double-wide in 2006. Over the years, the property started to show the wear and tear that comes with a busy life. Ms. Walker worked in early childhood education with children with special needs, a job she found “challenging but rewarding." Mr. Walker had retired from the military where he had been stationed in the Philippines. It was a chance encounter with a neighbor at church who knew about the MOWCTX home repair program that led Cheryl to apply. She had been researching, without much luck, contractors that she and her husband could afford to work on the various repairs on their home. As Cheryl stated they "did the best they could" to work around the general disrepair they were experiencing. After applying, The Walkers received a visit twice from the Home Repair contractors who worked on replacing flooring, upgrades to cabinets and kitchen island as well as the bathroom toilet, thanks to our partnership with The Home Depot Foundation. Cheryl enjoyed the professional attitude and quick responses from the Meals on Wheels Central Texas Home Repair team. "They came by in the nick of time" laughs Cheryl. Now, the Walkers can look around their home of 17 years and feel reassurance and comfort that their worries about finding finances and contractors for repairs have been resolved and they can enjoy their home. Says Cheryl, "It's like a facelift."
