Marcia Houston is all in for Meals on Wheels Central Texas. She has been a volunteer since 1996, and is more committed than ever, as she turns 97 years old this month. She has developed close relationships with the people on her route and continues to embody the true Power of the Knock.

She began her service by delivering meals with her husband, Sam and her dog, Sophie. Her neighbors were always glad to see them and petting her dog always brought a smile to their faces. While Sam and Sophie are gone now, their legacies live on as Marcia continues delivering her routes.

Marcia is always the first one in line for the special deliveries on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Taken together with her regular route, she has served almost 1,900 hours of service to our neighbors in need. Young at heart and committed in spirit, Marcia is a true testament to what we can accomplish together at Meals on Wheels Central Texas.

Helping homebound older adults is a cause close to her family’s heart. Marcia’s dedication sets a high standard for her children to emulate, but her family carries on the tradition well as they donate and volunteer their time. Her eldest son is also a member of the Board of Directors at Meals on Wheels Central Texas.

Volunteers are the lifeline for Meals on Wheels Central Texas, and we invite you to sign up to deliver a route. All it takes is one hour at lunch time and you can determine how frequently you donate your time. If you start now, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up to Marcia’s service hours!
