Nutritious After School Meals for Kids

Meals for Kids ProgramMeals for Kids provides nutritious, kid-friendly snacks and nutrition education to children of low-income families. The kids live in and attend after-school programs at public housing communities in the Austin area. Meals for Kids takes place at each of the after-school program sites in partnership with Communities in Schools and the Housing Authority of the City of Austin. Each snack consists of four components: protein, fruit, vegetables and whole grains.

Program Sites:

  • 3M Booker T. Washington
  • Bouldin Oaks
  • Meadowbrook
  • Santa Rita Courts

Serving the oldest and the youngest, we are honored to maximize our kitchen’s capacity by serving not only homebound older adults and people with disabilities, but also hungry children in our community. MFK served 7,272 healthy after-school meals during the 2018-19 academic year. Communities in Schools staff report the snacks serve as a significant part of SmartKids’ programming success. Nutritious food helps students work toward goals that are key to promoting school success and ultimately, self-sufficiency.

This program is in partnership with Communities in Schools and Smart Kids.
