Greater Austin Respite Care for Elderly with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease
Mike’s Place, a respite program for the elderly with dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of memory loss, also serves as a source of support and rest for caregivers.
Our time together provides each individual an opportunity to be social and have fun, while being occupied with stimulating and appropriate activities in a warm, safe, and caring environment. At the same time, caregivers may be ensured a bit of free time to relax.
WHEN: Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Meals on Wheels Central Texas 3227 E. 5th Street, Austin
Criteria for admission
Mike’s Place is a respite program intended for participants that have Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or some form of memory loss. Participants live at home and are being cared for by family members.
Participant should be ambulatory with minimal assistance (a walker or cane is fine) and not have a history of falls.
Participant must be able to communicate effectively with the program team.
Participants should not have major problems with aggression, wandering or incontinence.
