Home Repair client Mr. Dwayne Johnson is a decorated veteran, originally from Mississippi. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for over 20 years and was deployed to Kuwait and served during the Persian Gulf War. Mr. Johnson was decorated with several medals and ribbons including the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars and the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal.

Mr. Johnson and his wife shared with us that they were really struggling with the upkeep of their aging home. “Our home is old and needed a lot of renovation. Then came COVID and that made everything worse and we just could not afford it.” Meals on Wheels Central Texas Home Repair stepped in to assist with these much-needed repairs, using funding generously provided by The Home Depot Foundation. “It was awesome,” said Mrs. Johnson. “We really appreciated it. We were struggling and we are so thankful that they were able to help us out.”

The Home Repair team installed a newly converted walk-in shower in the hall bathroom, re-painted the walls and ceilings and provided a new accessible toilet and electrical updates in their bathrooms. The team also installed new kitchen cabinets, countertops and backsplash and gave their kitchen new paint.

Mrs. Johnson tells us the repairs and renovations were life-changing, providing increased accessibility for her husband and a fresh look to their home. “It just seems like a new home. We are enjoying it so much!”
